Ashford's Big Clean Up
All across Ashford, we are joining forces with local residents and established litter picking groups to help clean up our environment.
Since running our own litter picking group throughout 2023 with the residents of the Holiday Inn, we have come to notice the extent of how much litter there is around us, not just in the town but in our suburbs, even extending out to the countryside. Litter aside, Ashford has a lot to offer and we like many of you, would like to enjoy our town without the rubbish!
We have noticed that many more people are individually going out with a bin bag and doing it for themselves, but we thought, why don’t we all collaborate and go out in force to make a real impact on our environment.
This is why we have set up four dates over the summer period open to all adults and children in the community, to come along and volunteer and do a good deed for the day.
We have plenty of bin bags, hi vis vests and limited litter pickers available so if you have your own, please feel free to bring it.
All you have to do is turn up on your preferred date, we will litter pick in small groups in that area and then return the rubbish to our meeting point where Ashford Borough Council will be collecting the waste at the end of the session.

Repton Connect Community Centre Kitchen Garden
We are co-hosting the project, Repton Connect Community Centre Kitchen Garden. Working with asylum seekers in Ashford, we have been cultivating our own kitchen garden to be able to harvest and supply local families with food support. Starting with a disused vegetable plot, each week we have been adding to the garden, weeding, planting and nurturing with our volunteers and the garden has taken shape very nicely with plenty of veg already being harvested and benefitting families in the local community. This has also been a great opportunity for the asylum seekers to help better their mental and physical health by embracing gardening as well as being part of a group. This is a project that we are all really enjoying and we know is looked forward to every week.
With the help of Neighbourly and B & Q, we have also been able to double the size of our kitchen garden making plenty of room to grow even more variety of produce in 2024. Check out our MP4’s that show just how far the garden has come over 2023.
