Supporting Local Charities and Community Interest Corporations (C.I.C’s)

Mockford & Hunt are a small local business and it is important to us that we contribute to our community. We live locally with our families, our children attend local schools and we value everything that Ashford has to offer.

We sponsor a small selection of chosen charities/ community interest companies that we feel represent different aspects of the community and would benefit from working with us. We hope that you agree that by giving something back, we really do care. For us, it's always been more than a job.

By giving our sellers the opportunity to choose which preferred charity or C.I.C that we donate to, it ensures that the contribution will benefit a cause close to your heart and it hopefully reinforces that our service is all about you.

Mockford & Hunt Community Initiatives

We like to be hands on where we can having initiated and led local Ashford community projects as we enjoy being involved within the community itself with the aim to making a difference.

Since we opened in 2020, we have arranged two charity music festivals and participated in the Amsterdam Marathon. In 2022, we set up and host our now ongoing monthly Community Clean Up. In June 2023, we collaborated with Repton Connect Community Centre / People’s Pantry and residents from the Holiday Inn to grow a kitchen garden, of which fresh fruit and vegetables will be made available to support local families in the area.

What we did for our community in 2022.

Over the year, we donated £3037.66 between 6 local charities, all nominated by our sellers. In addition, we fundraised £816 for 'Take Off' mental health charity and Ukrainian Aid. We also supported Lady Joanna Thornhill Primary school in their advertising of events and Tim even starred as Father Christmas for their festive fair. Thank you to all our sellers for their nominations and to our local community that supported us to raise funds.

2023. Charities / Community Interest Corporations

As a seller of ours, let us know who you would like to benefit from our donations on completion. The options for 2023 are:

The Caldecott Foundation - The Caldecott Foundation based in Smeeth, provides specialist homes, fostering families and education for young people. All our services work to the Caldecott Foundation's Relational Model, providing young people with a secure base from which they can feel safe enough to develop strong relationships with adults and other children. Broadly speaking we use fundraised money for three purposes:

  • Support for care-experienced adults who are part of the Caldecott Family
  • Life-enriching experiences that all children have the right to enjoy
  • Capital projects to improve the facilities and environment

Thorne Hedgehog Rescue - Thorne Hedgehog Rescue takes in sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs with the aim to rear, treat, rehabilitate and release all that come into the centre. It is run on a self-funded basis but food and other day to day running costs, medications and veterinary bills increase with every intake. To meet my goal of giving the best care possible while never turning a piggy-in-need away, I rely completely on donations. To help raise funds, I attend events and give educational talks to a large number and wide range of groups and people across Kent, helping to highlight the threats facing our prickly friends and inform people of what we can do to help them, especially now that they have been classified as 'vulnerable to extinction'.

Abbie's Army - 'Abbie's Army is a charity dedicated to promoting awareness and raising vital funds for the medical research and treatment of DIPG, the deadliest childhood brain cancer. Sadly, brain cancer claims the lives of more UK children than any other cancer type.

DIPG or Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine glioma, also referred to as DMG has the worst outcome and currently is without any effective treatment or a cure worldwide with an average survival of just 9-12 months.'

Abbie's Army - Hypo Hounds is a small local charity that trains specialist assistance dogs to save the lives of children and adults with Brittle Type 1 Diabetes. Through scent detection, the dogs are trained to alert their families to dangerous changes to blood glucose levels, thus preventing their partner from collapsing or falling into a Diabetic coma with potentially fatal consequences. Type 1 Diabetes is a registered disability under the disability act and Hypo Hounds actively seeks to educate communities on this unseen disability in these children. We rely completely upon donations to keep Hypo Hounds running and without sponsorship and donations we simply wouldn't be able to provide vital support to our families.

Repton Community Trust - Repton Community Trust is a Kent based charity dedicated to "putting the heart in communities" by working with the community in and around Ashford. We run 'The Peoples Pantry' a community lead food bank with a community shop, 24hr food lockers, free recipe box scheme and self-isolation support project, delivering food to people with COVID-19. We have supported over 3500 people in the last 18 months and are constantly developing new ideas to reduce food insecurity.'

The Retreat - The Retreat offers much needed support to all animals - farmed, domestic and wild. Our aims are to educate the public that all animals need commitment, love and respect, also that animals should be neutered to avoid more unwanted litters, and are given the care they need. By rehoming animals we can free space to rescue more abused animals.

All the animals are given the time, veterinary care and love they need to recover before being re-homed. If a suitable home cannot be found they are never killed, they simply stay at The Retreat for the rest of their lives.
